The story of the painting:
When this painting was still just a background I had a friend ask me which painting I was most excited about. I took this one out because there is something that makes it feel full of life. While I had it out I accidentally knocked my mum's favourite cup over.
The one that she said she appreciated so much every morning when she had her tea in it.
It fell down from a table and broke into pieces.
This massive wave of guilt came over me. One might have thought my reaction was not in proportion to what had actually happened. But it was about so much more than just the cup.
You see, one thing became very clear to me, and that was how much I had been at war with myself for as long as I could remember. Judging every little step I took, creating a life full of shame, guilt and unworthiness.
At this point I had already been on my healing journey for a few years. A judging mind would then say, “why had you not come further than feeling all this because of a little cup?”, but I’ve learnt that it’s because we do the work that the heavier things are ready to come up. They come up when we have the capacity to process them and hold space for them.
And it’s not about getting it done, it’s about creating peace with whatever is going on. So, this painting is called “I choose peace”.
Because that’s what peace is. A choice.
Fun fact: I named the painting before I realised the connection to the story of the painting. Sometimes things happen backwards :)
